My Philosophy on character design
To create a character is to journey into their inner universe.
It means embracing every facet of the life within them: the quiet moments, the contradictions, the beauty, and the mess. For me, it’s never just about shapes and silhouettes. It’s about translating emotion, presence, and story into a visual language (sprinkled with a bit of rule of cool, of course). To design something that feels truly alive, I start by diving deep into the the reference material, and then forget it. I tune out the noise, set aside formulas, industry expectations, and the pressure to conform.Yes, technical knowledge builds skill and muscle memory.
But the heart of a character comes from within.
That’s where I begin — and only then do I bring it out into the world.
Illustrations
Every illustration is built from countless elements - value structure, color, contrasts, balance, storytelling, composition, and more - that must coexist in harmony in order to create not only something aesthetically pleasing and impactful, but also clear in readability, and purposeful in its structure and functionality. This is where critical thinking meets grace.
